What is PARK(ing) Day?
Anyone who has spent time in downtown Columbus knows there’s more space dedicated to parked cars than people or parks. We’re not alone. According to the Trust for Public Land, more than 70% of outdoor space in American cities is dedicated to private vehicles rather than open space for people.
One day in November 2006, the San Francisco creative collective Rebar fed a parking meter, laid down some sod, and planted a park bench. Since then, artists and activists in cities around the world have followed their example in PARK(ing) Day.
